Richard Wormwell
Richard Wormwell has over 25 years of experience in the broadcast sector, holding high-profile global positions. With a background in broadcast engineering, he became a multi-camera studio director for major UK and international broadcasters. Currently, he is dock10’s Head of Production Innovation, focusing on virtual production, media convergence, and generative AI.
In 2018, Richard oversaw the BBC's Match of the Day relaunch using a virtual set and established an in-house development team to further utilise virtual production in the light entertainment sector. He served on the board of the UKRI-backed Weavr project, a £7.2 million initiative that concluded in 2022, leveraging AI and creative technologies for real-time immersive storytelling and audience engagement in the sports sector.
Richard regularly collaborates with academia, most recently developing AI production techniques with the University of York. He secured over £1.2 million in UKRI funding for real-time AI light transfer in multi-camera green screen production. Additionally, he sits on the University of Salford’s Industry Advisory Board and partners with the Centre of Doctoral Training at Royal Holloway.
Throughout his career, Richard has consistently pushed the boundaries of broadcast innovation, merging technology with creativity to enhance viewer experiences and foster industry collaborations.
